Why study Spanish?
Being able to communicate in another language is becoming more and more important as New Zealand creates more international links. Over 400 million people in the world speak Spanish as their first language. It is the official language in 21 countries; throughout Europe, the Americas and Africa, and is spoken widely in many more.

In Year 9 you will:

  • Learn how to greet and farewell each other

  • Learn how to introduce yourself and your family

  • Learn to count to 100

  • Learn how to talk about school

  • Sing lots of Spanish songs

  • Taste Spanish food

  • Tell the time in Spanish

  • Learn some Spanish dances

Where can Spanish take you?

Spanish exchanges to South/Central America and Spain in the senior school

  • Senior school trip to Argentina

  • You can study Spanish at university, as a major, minor or part of another degree

  • Work overseas in a Spanish speaking country
