Year 9

Compulsory Subjects

In Year 9 you will study English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science and Health & Physical Education.  

 

Option Subjects

Year 9 students also study one language and it is recommended that you study at least one art and one technology subject.

Year 10

Compulsory Subjects

All Year 10 students will study English, Science, Mathematics, Social Studies and Physical Education.

Option Subjects

You can choose any one of the following subject examples when planning your subjects for 2022. You can study two full year languages (subject to HOD approval) or one language and two half year options. Alternatively, you can take four half year options. See the examples below:

2 x Languages (both full year). Talk to Mr Durrant, HOD Languages if wishing to begin a second language.

Year 11

Compulsory Subjects

All Year 11 students will study English, Science, and Mathematics and select three additional subjects.

​

Option Subjects

Make your subject choices as broad as possible.

 

In order to gain Level 1 NCEA:

  • Students must earn at least 80 Level 1 Credits including 10 Numeracy Credits and 10 Literacy Credits

 

Choose a maximum of two subjects from any one Learning Area. This restriction is to ensure you keep your options open for a variety of possible pathways in Year 12 and 13.

Year 12

Compulsory Subjects

All Year 12 students will study English and Mathematics plus four additional subjects.

​

Option Subjects

Make your subject choices as broad as possible.

 

If University or Polytechnic is an option, it is vital to acquire the 10 University Entrance Literacy Credits in Year 12. That is, 5 Credits in Writing and 5 Credits in Reading. These are offered in Year 12 English.

 

In order to gain Level 2 NCEA:

  • Students must earn at least 60 Level 2 Credits.

  • Level 1 literacy and numeracy requirements must also be met.

Year 13

Requirements

All students study five subjects (plus one study which is automatically allocated to you).

  • You are required to take English or another language rich subject (eg. Classics, Geography, History, History of Art, Te Reo Maori, Te Reo Rangatira)

  • If you wish to study six subjects seek the Principal's approval.

  • All international students must take an English Course.

 

All students should take at least four UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE APPROVED SUBJECTS and have UE Literacy or attain it in 2022.

 

In order to earn NCEA Level 3 students must complete:

  • 60 Level 3 Credits
    (Including 14 credits in three approved University Subjects for University Entrance)

  • Level 1 numeracy

  • Level  1 and 2 literacy​
