Description
This is a Level 2 course in which students will develop skills in the cookery aspect of Hospitality. It is a practical course. The programme is designed around Service IQ Unit Standards, and offer the Certificate of Achievement in Cookery 2 and 4. The credits also count towards NCEA Level 2. It i s designed as a further step towards Level 3 Hospitality. In this course students will:
Complete Unit Standard 167: Practice food safety methods in a food business. This is a certificate requirement for employment in the Hospitality industry
Handle and maintain knives and equipment in the kitchen
Demonstrate cookery techniques of grilling, baking, stir frying, roasting
Prepare and cook basic foods eg. salads, fruit, vegetables, meat, cakes, pastries, breads and sandwiches

Textiles

Description
You will create one or two textiles items. These may include a garment for yourself, a wearable arts project, a recycled item or a Textile item for a specified purpose.
You will learn to go through the technological process of designing; adapting a pattern; creating a construction plan to follow; making mock-ups while learning techniques and processes; then constructing a garment and or a textile item.
