  • Study the techniques involved in genetic engineering (including transgenesis and genetic profiling) and its impact on the environment, our health and evolution.  This is becoming an increasingly important aspect of everyday life

  • Investigate the behaviour of plants and especially animals in their environment, including the study of predators, finding mates and why animals migrate across the planet

  • Investigate further applications of Redox  in the form of Electrolytic cells

  • Expand your knowledge of Atomic Structure and Bonding to include a more in depth appreciation of electron configuration based on quantum mechanics and a more detailed understanding of Shape and Polarity of molecules and Periodic Properties of the Elements

  • Investigate a wider range of Organic compounds, their chemical properties and how to identify them by spectroscopic techniques

  • Expand your understanding of Enthalpy Changes in reactions and the properties of equilibrium and study aqueous solutions in depth

  • Carry out analytical chemistry techniques in the University of Otago Mellor Chemistry Laboratories

  • This is your first opportunity to consider the ideas of Modern Physics by studying the work of Einstein and Bohr

  • We focus our knowledge of mechanics by studying collisions, springs and gravity

  • We investigate how waves are formed in musical instruments and how electromagnetic waves interact
